- Western Michigan is coming into this game with a 6-4 record this season and they are 5-1 in the conference. They are currently sitting at the top of the MAC as the only 1 loss team in the conference and they are going to be pushing to stay at the top with 2 games left as they now control their own destiny. They have won their last 2 straight games and they are going to have some confidence as they are coming off of a 17-13 win at home against Ohio in their last game, a big win for the conference championship race. They are going up against a Northern Illinois team that is 3-7 this season and they are 2-4 in the conference. They have been playing better in their recent games as they have won 2 of their last 3 games, but 1 of those was a 21-7 win at home against a bad Ball State team and the other was a 45-3 win on the road in their last game against a winless UMass team. Their offense has not been that good all season and their defense has been much worse against better teams in the conference as they have lost all 3 of their games against conference opponents who are currently 4-2 or better in the MAC by 10+ points each. NIU has a very bad passing game as well so they are going to lean more on their run game here as they usually do, but this WMU defense has been good this season as they only average 120 rushing yards allowed per game. NIU is not going to have many options on offense here, but WMU is going to have success on the ground against this NIU run defense and that will open things up for this WMU passing game as well. Western Michigan is going to get up for this game with a chance to go to the MAC Championship this year. Western Michigan will cover the spread in this game.
