CIT Tournament Breakdown
by Al McMordie - 03/29/2014
The 2014 edition of the College Insider Tournament Final Four will feature teams from the Ivy League (Yale), Big South Conference (VMI), West Coast Conference (Pacific) and Ohio Valley Conference (Murray St). On Tuesday, VMI will host Yale, while Murray St. will welcome Pacific.
All four teams are playing strong basketball, as all four have won and covered their previous two games.
Let's take a look at previous Final Fours in the College Insider Tournament.
The Tourney was founded just six seasons ago, in 2009. And the format has remained the same, whether the field has been comprised of 16 or 32 teams: the committee has designated one team to play at home to host the game, all the way through the Championship game.
Surprisingly, the home teams have been dominated in the Tournament's Final Four games. Since 2009, they've gone 5-10 ATS, including 2-9 ATS as favorites off an ATS win. That could spell trouble for VMI and Murray St. on Tuesday.
This season, the favorites have gone 13-15 ATS (2-2 for road favorites; 11-13 for home favorites).
Of the four remaining teams, VMI and Murray St. have been the darlings in Vegas, as VMI has covered 85% of its lined games this year, while Murray St. has won the money in 64% of its games. Yale and Pacific were at 57% and 56%, respectively.
However, the teams with the worse pointspread records, relative to their opponent, have won the money in 10 of the College Insider Tournament's 15 previous games in its Final Four. So that would bode well for Yale and Pacific on Tuesday.
Good luck, as always...Big Al McMordie.
