Free Play from Doc’s Sports. Take #636 North Carolina Tar Heels over Alabama Crimson Tide (9:40p.m., Thursday, March 28 CBS) Alabama should have lost their round of 32 game on Sunday, but played a team that did not try and run anything on offense and had only 5 total assists in the game. North Carolina is a much better team than Grand Canyon and I feel the Heels will win this game by double digits. North Carolina has a great pedigree in the NCAA Tournament and Alabama lost in this round last year despite being a much better team than what they have this season. Alabama lives and dies with the arc, but North Carolina has the defense and length to contest those shots. Lay the points with the No. 1 seed in Los Angeles on Thursday night. My “Cutting Room Floor” plays are the situations I considered the closest to being worthy of investment but did not make the “final cut” for my official plays today for subscribers. The last play I cut for Thursday was on Over the Total in the game between the Alabama Crimson Tide and the North Carolina Tar Heels. Alabama (23-11) has won three of their last four games after their 72-61 victory against Grand Canyon as a 5.5-point favorite on Sunday. While both teams in that game did not make more than 36.9% of their shots, the Crimson Tide have played 16 of their last 22 games Over the Total with the Total set at 160 or higher. Alabama has played 7 of their last 8 games Over the Total as an underdog. North Carolina (29-7) has won ten of their last 11 games after their 85-69 victory against Michigan State as a 4-point favorite on Saturday. The Tar Heels have played 8 of their last 12 games Over the Total after winning three of their last four games. They have also played 9 of their last 11 games Over the Total played on a neutral court. Take the Over. Best of luck — Frank. ** Frank Sawyer’s Hollywood Sports is on an 8 of 13 (62%) CBB Game of the Year run after DELIVERING their 25* CBB College Basketball Invitational Game of the Year with Seattle on Tuesday! At 10:05 pm, our complimentary selection is on the Vancouver Canucks over the Dallas Stars. In an effort to take down their first Presidents' Trophy since winning it back-to-back in 2011 and 2012, the Canucks have been the best team in the West for most of the season. In fact, as recently as the third week of February, Vancouver was holding onto that title as the team with the highest point total. But the last five weeks have not been very kind to the Canucks who have gone just 8-9 since February 17 (and are no longer the leader for said Trophy). They still hold a solid eight-point lead in the Pacific but no team wants to go into a tough playoff run on a down note so Vancouver is hoping to make a nice run in its last 10 games. And although the Stars are a very good team, this is one of the best match-ups for Vancouver coming off of a tough loss here at home against the Kings on Monday. The Stars are a team the Canucks could very well see in the playoffs and they've dominated this series lately, taking seven of the last eight meetings going back to 2021. Take Vancouver. As always, good luck...Al McMordie. Don't miss my hoops and hockey winners tonight, as I'm 21-12 in hockey and 427-330 this basketball season. My free winner is the Over in tonight's Sweet 16 showdown between Illinois and Iowa State. The Big 12 tournament champion Cyclones have been getting things done with defense, ranking No. 1 in efficiency. But they're going to have their hands full with the Big Ten tournament champs, who have the No. 1 in offense when talking efficiency. Now while it's generally smarter to take the defensive team when you have a clash of contrasting styles, I also know the Cyclones are capable of running with teams and can keep pace with fast-break points and scoring off turnovers. I wouldn't be surprised if this one comes down to the end and creeps into overtime. Play this one high. ... BIG PLAY ALERT: Wednesday I hit my NIT Quarterfinal Game of the Year on Seton Hall.
